Junior second baseman Casey Turgeon and the Gators will face either Alabama or Kentucky on Wednesday.

No. 1 seed Florida (37-19) will face ninth-seeded Kentucky (33-22), who defeated eight-seed Alabama on Tuesday night 7-1, in the third game of the 2014 SEC Tournament on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

 

The game can be heard on the Gator IMG Sports Network with Jeff Cardozo and Mick Hubert, will be carried on CSS (Channels 259 and 1259 HD in Gainesville) and on WatchESPN with Rusty Ensor and Matt Stewart.

·         Florida claimed the SEC Championship with a 21-9 (.700) record, the Gators' third league title in the last five years (2010-11-14).

·         UF emerged victorious in seven of its 10 conference series, going 4-1 (.800) at home and 3-2 (.600) on the road.

·         Kevin O’Sullivan’s club reached the 20-win plateau in league action for the eighth time in school history.

·         The Gators won the program’s 13th SEC title, first since 2011, and emerged on top of the East for their league-best 22nd divisional crown.

·         Florida was picked third in the East in the SEC Coaches’ Preseason Poll and did not receive any votes to win the SEC Championship.

·         The Gators are 55-56 (.495) in their 33 SEC Tournament appearances and have brought home six titles: 1981, 1982, 1984, 1988, 1991, 2011).

·         Junior catcher Taylor Gushue (.335, 46 RBI, 6 HR) earned the SEC Player of the Week honor for the first time on Monday after hitting .615 (8-for-13) in four outings and batting .636 (7-for-11) in the series triumph at Tennessee that locked up the SEC hardware.

·         Gushue captured the league’s batting title in conference games with a .389 clip and was the runner-up in SEC contests in slugging percentage (.583) and on-base percentage (.449).

·         Freshman RHP Logan Shore is 7-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 14 appearances, making 13 starts, and has struck out 57 batters in 85 innings. The righty was 7-1 with a 2.08 ERA in league play, tying for the lead in conference wins.

·         Sophomore OF Harrison Bader is up to .308 overall after going 4-for-12 (.333) at Tennessee and is 13-of-16 (.813) on the basepaths this year. He was second on the squad with a .303 SEC average and paced the team with 20 runs.

·         Florida is 15-6 (.714) in one-run games this season, the most wins in the nation in that category.

·         UF is 7-2 (.778) in extra innings and the most recent was a 6-5 triumph in 11 innings over Tennessee last Thursday night in Knoxville.

·         The Gators have established a single-season school record with 20 saves, surpassing the mark of 18 set in 1991, 2010 and 2012. Remarkably, eight different hurlers have recorded a save, with junior RHP Ryan Harris (3-1, 2.73) leading the way with five.

·         Florida is 14-8 (.636) against ranked opponents this season, the most top-25 wins in the SEC.

·         The Gators’ official RPI is No. 2 in the nation according to the NCAA and Warren Nolan rates the Orange and Blue’s Strength of Schedule No. 1.

·         Freshman LHP Kirby Snead (3-0, 2.12) picked up the first two saves of his career in the two wins at Tennessee. The southpaw has allowed one run in his last 14 appearances dating back to April 6 at Kentucky.

·         Before the SEC home finale against Vanderbilt on May 10, UF recognized its three seniors in pregame ceremonies, right-hander Keenan Kish, first baseman/outfielder Zack Powers and right-hander Karsten Whitson.

·         Freshman OF Ryan Larson (.273) enters the SEC Tourney on a career-high seven-game hitting streak in which he is 10-for-19 (.526).
