Junior J.D. Tomlinson will compete at the East Regional as an individual

For the third consecutive year, junior J.D. Tomlinson will compete at NCAA Regionals, this time as an individual, in the East Regional at Auburn University Club on Thursday.

The Gainesville native appeared as a freshman in the 2012 East Regional where he paced the Gators by shooting even-par after rounds of 73-71-72 and finishing T5. As a sophomore in the South Regional, Tomlinson didn’t fare as well, tallying a 232 to land inside the top-50 as Florida went on to a second place finish.

Florida’s 13-year span of advancing in the postseason came to an end this year, but the Orange and Blue will be well represented by Tomlinson who paced the squad this season with his consistent performance. Tomlinson leads the team with a 72.36 stroke average, owns a 3.82 differential and notched 14 rounds at or under-par.

Tomlinson finished in the top-20 in six of the 11 tournaments for the Gators, including three top-five finishes. His career-best outing came at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate in late September, where he fired a 6-under event score to claim a shared spot for third. The junior shot a 68 in round two, matching a personal-best and capped off round three with a 69.

A strong showing will be key for Tomlinson, as just one of the five individuals at Auburn will advance to the NCAA Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas at Prairie Dunes Golf Course from May 23 – 28.

Course Information: Auburn University Club is a par-72, 7,254yard course.

Tournament Information: The regional will run from Thursday, May 15 to Saturday, May 17 and is hosted by Auburn University.

Format: 54-hole event featuring 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams where participants will play 18 holes each day.

Tee Times:

Thursday – 8 a.m.

Friday – 8 a.m.

Saturday – 7:30 a.m.

Eyeing the Competition: Tomlinson will be vying for the top individual spot against conference-foe Blake Morris (Ole Miss), Jared Bettcher (Troy), Marco Iten (Austin Peay) and Theodore Lederhausen (Harvard). Tomlinson has had exposure to three of the four competitors as Florida squared off with Ole Miss, Austin Peay and Troy at the Old Waverly Collegiate in April. The Gators also matched up with the Rebels at Shoal Creek in the fall.

Iten tied for first place medalist honors at Old Waverly after shooting a career-best 66 in the final round as Morris took third place, two spots ahead of Tomlinson (T5). Ole Miss finished third at Old Waverly, Florida fourth and Austin Peay T5.

At Shoal Creek, Tomlinson may have had his career-best performance, but Morris came out on top, earning shared medalist honors with his 8-under showing. As a team, Ole Miss and Florida ended play T3 (-7).
