Kourtney Keegan and Brianna Morgan collected regional awards.

Florida’s Kourtney Keegan and Brianna Morgan were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) coaches, who announced their regional award winners on Tuesday.

 

Keegan, a freshman from Roswell, Georgia, was recognized at the ITA Southeast Rookie Player of the Year and Morgan, a sophomore from Beverly Hills, California, was honored as the Southeast ITA Player to Watch.

 

The Gator pair moves onto the national ballot in their respective awards categories.

 

Criteria for the ITA Rookie Player of the Year Award

1.     A freshman who has had the most outstanding first year in college tennis.

2.     Expected to be ranked in the top twenty (20) in the final regional ranking.

3.     Has contributed to his/her teams in the areas of sportsmanship and leadership.

4.     Players must have been ranked nationally, or if the region does not have a candidate who has achieved a national ranking, must have been ranked regionally.

 

Criteria for the ITA Player to Watch Award

1.     Player must have been ranked in the top twenty (20) at least once during the year.

2.     Player is expected to be one of the top returning players next year and possibly win or reach the finals of an ITA National event.

3.     Player is expected to have had an outstanding collegiate year, but has not yet reached the finals of an ITA National event

 

Catching Up with Keegan

·         Achieved a season-high national ITA singles ranking of No. 34 and a doubles rank of No. 21.

·         31-10 overall singles record (second-most wins on the team), including a 16-4 dual match record.

·         31-6 doubles record, the most wins on the team, with the second-closest having 21 victories.

·         Two-time SEC Freshman of the Week

·         Honored by her teammates with the annual Rheau Stakeley Sportsmanship Award

·         Highest-ranked opponenet defeated this season was No. Pleun Burgmans (Auburn), 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2, USTA Clay Court Invite (Oct. 25)

·         Won the Bedford Cup Doubles Title and the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic doubles crown

·         Semifinalist ion the ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championships

·         Achieved a career-high national ITA singles ranking of No. 14 (Feb. 11 and April 22).

·         27-6 overall singles record, including a 14-2 dual match record playing the top three positions (10-0 in SEC)

·         2014 All-Southeastern Conference First Team

·         highest-ranked opponent defeated: No. 8 Krista Hardebeck (Stanford), 6-1, 7-5, in the Riviera/ITA All-American Consolation Quarterfinals (Oct. 4, 2013)

·         2014 Dorothy Anderson Memorial Award, presented annually to the Gator who displays best combination of academics and character on and off the court (team award)

·         2014 Neal Anderson Scholastic Award-Highest GPA (team award)
