Junior JD Tomlinson earned 2014 SEC Community Service Team honors

Florida men’s golfer J.D. Tomlinson and women’s golfer Elcin Ulu were named to the 2014 SEC Community Service Teams, the conference announced on Friday.

The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community through superior service efforts.

Junior J.D. Tomlinson – Community Service Highlights

·         Mentored students at Lincoln Middle School

·         Volunteered at the annual Miracle on Main Street event where the golf teams donate Christmas gifts and interact with the children in the community who are less fortunate

·         Coached the Oak Hall Middle School basketball team for the past three years while a full-time Florida student-athlete

 

Senior Elcin Ulu – Community Service Highlights

·         Volunteered with Shands/UF Health Infusion Room Visits

·         Participated at Caleb's Pitch Syringe Art, a bi-monthly event at Shands Hospital where student athletes help the children in making syringe art masterpieces

·         Also volunteered at Caleb's Pitch Family Fun Night

·         Participated in Gator Move, a student-athlete initiative that encourages healthy lifestyle choices

·         Volunteered with Williams Elementary 5th grade class, Climb for Cancer, and the canned door drive

·         Recognized as the student-athlete volunteer of the month in January with over 33 community service hours
