STANFORD, Calif. -- The Florida track and field distance trio of freshman Becky Greene, Cory McGee and Agata Strausa headed to the Golden State with one race on the slate, the 1500m at the Payton Jordan Invitational, hosted by Stanford at Cobb Track Sunday.

 

Greene, McGee and Strausa delivered with three of the top times in the country and Southeastern Conference, McGee and Strausa as the top two collegiate finishers in the event, as all three clocked season-best marks. McGee (4:12.50) and Strausa (4:12.54) competed in the elite section of the race, their first time out in the event outdoors this season, while Greene put up a PR in section three with her 4:17.36.

 

PAYTON JORDAN INVITATIONAL NOTABLES

·         All three Gators ran the 1500m at the Payton Jordan Invitational, but in two different finals sections of the event at Stanford

·         Freshman Becky Greene clocked a 4:17.36 PR in her section of the 1500m, improving her No. 8 place on the UF all-time top-10 list. Greene’s previous season best was 4:19.68, set at the 2014 Pepsi Florida Relays

·         Seniors Cory McGee and Agata Strausa competed in the elite section of the 1500m at the Payton Jordan, the first time out for both this outdoors season. The Gator duo finished eighth and ninth, respectively, but were the top two collegiate runners in the event

·         McGee clocked a season-best 4:12.50, Strausa a season-best 4:12.54, two of the best marks in the event in the country so far this outdoors season

·         Pending other weekend results, McGee, Strausa and Greene clocked the second, third and 11th-fastest marks in NCAA in the 1500m

·         The trio additionally ranks second, third and seventh, respectively, in the SEC

·         Strausa was just shy of her PR 4:11.27, while McGee’s PR is 4:06.67, also the Florida school record in the event

 

UP NEXT

The Orange and Blue will wrap up regular-season competition at the Seminole Invite in Tallahassee May 9 before heading to Lexington, Ky., for the 2014 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which run May 15-18 at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Facility.
