GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- After a two-week training period following the Gators’ two home meets of 2014, the Orange and Blue will swing back into action this weekend at two different competitions in Louisiana and California.

The majority of the Florida squad will battle on the bayou at the LSU Invitational May 3, while UF women’s distance runners Becky Greene, Cory McGee and Agata Strausa, will compete at the Stanford Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in the Golden State Sunday, May 4.

The Gators – and the SEC – are just two short weeks out from the 2014 SEC Outdoor Championships, hosted this year by Kentucky in Lexington May 15-18. Entering the second-to-last regular-season competition, Florida is tops in the league in eight different events between the Gator men’s and women’s student-athletes. On the men’s side, UF is ranked No. 1 in the latest USTFCCCA DI National Computer Rankings, the women No. 2. The Orange and Blue will be on the hunt for a fifth men’s SEC outdoor title, while the women will aim for their sixth in school history after claiming the SEC indoor championship March 1.

·         In the April 29 USTFCCCA Outdoor Division I National Computer Rankings, the Gators checked in at No. 1 on the men’s side and No. 2 in the women’s rankings.

·         The Florida squads wrapped up home competition with the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational April 19 at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville.

·         Several runners highlighted the Tom Jones for the Gators – like junior Dedric Dukes with a PR in the 400m (45.66) and 800m PRs across the board on the men’s and women’s sides, but it was a special weekend for the Gator field athletes.

·         Junior Ciarra Brewer was named the April 22 SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week after claiming the triple jump title with a leap of 13.15m/43-1.75 in her first outing in the event of the outdoor season. Brewer’s initial 2014 mark wasn’t too far off her PR and the UF record at 13.85m/45-5.25. Brewer, who had the best performance in the SEC in the event that week, now owns the second-best triple-jump mark in the Southeastern Conference and ranks at No. 7 in the NCAA at this point in the season, fourth in the NCAA East Division.

·         Junior men’s thrower Kyle Strawn additionally tossed a PR to take the men’s hammer throw title (68.18m/223-8). Strawn has won or been the top collegiate finisher in every meet he’s competed in this season for UF – Texas Relays, Florida Relays and the Tom Jones – and ranks second in the SEC in the hammer.

·         Sophomore jumper/sprinter Robyn Reynolds also leapt a PR in the women’s long jump with a 6.36m/20-10.5 to enter UF’s all-time top 10 list with the mark. Reynolds ranks fourth in the league after her first long jump performance of the outdoor campaign.
