Monday April 28, 2014Yeguete, Young Named Lt. Fred Koss Award Recipients
Will Yeguete and Patric Young have been named recipients of the 2014 Lt. Fred Koss Award, presented to one or more senior basketball players who, during a four-year career as a student-athlete, personify the attributes of leadership, personal character, scholarship and competitive excellence.
These two seniors have each reflected the ideals of a student-athlete through their individual accomplishments and commitment to represent the core of values of the UF basketball program.
This is the 40th anniversary of the award established in 1974 to honor Lt. Fred Koss, who perished when his F-4 Phantom jet was shot down on July 7, 1972, during the Vietnam War. Lt. Koss was a freshman basketball player at the University of Florida in 1964-65 and earned his undergraduate degree from Findlay College before entering the United States Air Force for pilot training.
The first recipient of the award in 1974 was Timothy Fletcher, who went on to become a Colonel in the United States Air Force with a 30-year career.
This is the 34th year a player has qualified for the award, and there are now 39 total award winners.
