Gainesville, Fla.

Stephanie Tofft hit three home runs and drove in 10 runs as Florida swept Texas A&M over the weekend.

After she powered the Gators to a sweep of Texas A&M on Easter weekend, Florida third baseman Stephanie Tofft (Lincoln, Calif.) was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week, announced Tuesday (April 22) by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The award is Tofft’s second accolade in as many days after she was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday. This is Florida’s first National Player of the Week selection since Kirsti Merritt (Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.) was honored by the NFCA on May 14, 2013, after the Orange and Blue won the SEC Tournament.

“It was a team effort,” Tofft said. “Having our pitchers at the top of their game allows me to relax at the plate. They did a great job to hold Texas A&M’s offense in check. Our coaches have worked with me a lot to improve my swing, and I’m seeing the ball very well. I think we’re playing really well as a team right now, and we want to maintain our momentum going into the postseason.”

Tofft hit .700 (7x10) with six runs scored, one double, three home runs and 10 RBI in UF’s three wins over the Aggies. The senior homered in each game of the series, and tallied her second five-RBI game of the season on Saturday (also: Feb. 15 vs. Ohio State – 6). The third baseman paces the Gators with 51 RBI overall and 19 in conference play. Her six home runs in SEC action are tied with Merritt for the team lead.

“I want to thank the NFCA for recognizing Stephanie for her performance last week,” Head Coach Tim Walton said. “Her play was pivotal in our three-game sweep on the road against Texas A&M. Stephanie has really played at a high level this season, and she is an important part of our offense.”

Tofft and the Gators will host their last homestand of the regular season this week. In-state rival USF visits Wednesday at 6 p.m., and a three-game series against No. 15/17 Missouri begins Friday.  For the latest updates about Gator Softball, follow the team on Twitter, visit them on Facebook and stay tuned to GatorZone.com.
