Gator Great and Bulls center Joakim Noah Named NBA Defensive POY

Gator great and current center for the Chicago Bulls, Joakim Noah, has been named the 2013-14 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year as announced by the league this afternoon.

Noah, key component to Florida’s back-to-back National Championships in 2006 and 2007, becomes the first player in school history to score the honors while also becoming the first Gator to be named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Team. He scored Second Team accolades in 2011 and was named First Team in 2013.

In the midst of the best season of his professional career, Noah is averaging a double-double with 12.6 points per game and 11.3 rebounds per game. He also leads the Bulls in assists, dishing 5.4 per game, a major accomplishment for a center.

Noah is the first Bull since Michael Jordan in the 1987-88 season to win the prestigious award and has a shot to make the All-NBA first team.

The Bulls will meet Bradley Beal and the Wizards for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Playoffs tomorrow night at 9:30 p.m.
