Friday April 18, 2014Darkness Suspends Round One of 2014 SEC Championship; Gators Sit in Ninth

Birmingham, Ala.

With weather conditions pushing tee times back by hours, the first round of the 2014 SEC Championship was suspended as darkness set in at Greystone Golf and Country Club. Round one will resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET as round two is estimated to begin at 11 a.m. ET.

Junior Sarah Schober and freshman Maria Torres highlighted Florida’s five in day one as they both shot even-par (72). Both members of the UF squad snagged top-3 individual spot.

Fifth-ranked Arkansas still has three holes left of to play, but is currently atop the team leaderboard at just 6-over. The No. 20 Florida women’s golf team finished all 18 holes and sits in ninth place heading into day two.

Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: “Sarah and Maria had great rounds today. They played really hard and grinded it out until the end. College golf is a team game; unfortunately, we didn’t have a fourth score today and it hurt us. The scores are really tight, so we need to play hard the remaining two days. You never know what can happen.”
