Florida earned back-to-back road wins over both LSU and Mississippi State this season, with freshman Maxx Lipman clinching the sweep of the Tigers and senior Mike Alford winning the decider against the Bulldogs.
The Gators are 31-18 at the SEC Tournament since team play was initiated in 1990.UF has won four SEC tournaments: 1994, 2000, 2005 and 2011. In 2011, Florida defeated Kentucky 4-0 in the finals in Gainesville.
Shelton Says: “We were able to bounce back last weekend at Kentucky and get a quality win in the conference to finish our regular season. Our guys earned the first-round byes; going 8-4 in the SEC is not easy. One of our goals this season was to win the SEC Tournament; so, for us, we’re excited to go into the tournament. Obviously, it helps to have beaten Kentucky and have a good feeling going in – I feel like we have some momentum. The conference is always tough, but at the same time, we feel like we can beat anyone in the conference.”
Nationally Ranked Gators: Four Florida singles players are ranked nationally: No. 70 senior Florent Diep, No. 89 senior Spencer Newman, No. 92 freshman Elliott Orkin and No. 99 sophomore Gordon Watson. Orkin and Watson represent the Gators as No. 19 in the national doubles rankings followed by newly-ranked pair of Diep and Watson at No. 29.
