Lexington, Ky.

Senior Florent Diep defeated No. 13 Jomby to clinch the match for UF today.

With a 4-2 win over 14th-ranked Kentucky this afternoon, the No. 15 Florida men’s tennis team secured a fourth-place finish in the SEC standings and a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament next week. The Gators wrapped up the regular season at 13-8 (8-4 SEC), boasting a 9-1 record at home.

Florida’s No. 1 pair of senior Florent Diep and sophomore Gordon Watson defeated their second-straight top-20 doubles opponent this weekend to give UF the doubles point and an early advantage over UK.

Singles play was competitive, as both the Wildcats and the Gators put two on the board quickly. With the match close at 3-2, No. 120 Diep tallied a big victory over UK’s 13th-ranked Tom Jomby winning a second-set tiebreak to decide the match for Florida.

Shelton Says: “I could not be happier for our guys, especially our seniors Mike and Flo. They came through again for us today. What a great way to end the regular season!”
