Thursday April 10, 2014No. 15 Gators Conclude Regular Season On The Road

Nashville, Tenn.

The No. 15 Florida men’s tennis team travels to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Vanderbilt on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center. The Gators will then play their final regular-season match in Lexington, Ky., and face the 14th-ranked Wildcats on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.

Last spring, Florida took down Vanderbilt, 4-1, as senior Mike Alford clinched the match for UF at No. 4 singles. UF also posted a huge upset over then-No. 8 Kentucky, with a 4-3 victory in Gainesville. Alford and current Gators sophomore Gordon Watson both notched wins in the defeat of the Wildcats last year.

Florida sports a 37-8-1 all-time record against Vanderbilt and a 42-14 advantage vs. Kentucky.

SEC Showdown: The Gators will complete the 2013-14 regular season with a challenge: the No. 15 UF squad (7-3) is just one conference match behind No. 14 UK (8-2) in the current SEC standings.

Records: Florida 12-7/7-3 SEC, Vanderbilt 13-8/4-6 SEC, Kentucky 18-7/8-2 SEC

Sibling Rivalry: Florida freshman Maxx Lipman will compete against his older brother, Vanderbilt senior Ryan Lipman, tomorrow in Nashville. The Lipman brothers bring stiff competition to the match – UF’s Lipman was just named SEC Freshman of the Week as VU’s Lipman is ranked No. 4 nationally with doubles partner Gonzales Austin and No. 57 in singles.

Shelton Says: “We are looking forward to this weekend. Our guys are very aware of what they need to do to be successful. We have to be physically and mentally prepared as every match in this conference is a challenge, especially on the road.”

Nationally Ranked Gators: Four Florida singles players are ranked nationally: No. 82 freshman Elliott Orkin, No. 97 senior Spencer Newman, No. 106 sophomore Gordon Watson and No. 120 senior Florent Diep. Orkin and Watson represent the lone Gators duo as No. 16 in the national doubles rankings.
