Monday April 7, 2014Gators Sit Tied for Third After Round One of Old Waverly Collegiate

West Point, Miss.

Eric Banks

Due to a late start after rainfall last night, teams of the Old Waverly Collegiate were unable to finish their scheduled 36 holes today and will resume play tomorrow morning. Florida sits tied for third after shooting just 1-over in round one (289).

Junior Eric Banks played a great round of golf this afternoon, firing a 69 to cruise his way up the leaderboard to share a spot for second place. Banks shot even-par on 15 holes, penciling in three birdies on the day.

Checking in inside the top 25, junior J.D. Tomlinson carded a 72 (T16) while sophomore Richard Donegan shot 1-over to sneak in at T22. Tomlinson bogeyed one hole today but penciled in four birdies while Donegan penciled in three.

Florida will return to action at 9:30 a.m. to complete their final three holes in round two, as round three is set to begin on a shotgun start immediately following.

Buddy’s Bite: “We played reasonably well today, nothing spectacular. Our two juniors played solid all day and everybody contributed a little bit beyond that. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to win a golf tournament tomorrow and the weather will cooperate to get all 54 holes in, but today was a step in the right direction from a competitive standpoint.”
