The Gators open NCAA Semifinal compeition on vault. NCAA Championships' semifinals are April 18 in Birmingham, Ala.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The top-seeded and defending national champion University of Florida gymnastics team is in the second of the NCAA Championships’ semifinals on Friday, April 18 at 8 p.m. (ET). Semifinal II contains Florida, Alabama, UCLA, Nebraska, Penn State and Utah.

Semifinal I (which begins at 2 p.m. ET) consists of Georgia, Illinois, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma and Stanford. The NCAA Championships are set for April 18-20 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Ala.  

 

Starting this season, the seeding determined at the time of regional selections was maintained throughout the championships. Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 15 will compete in Friday’s Semifinal II and teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 compete in Semifinal I.

 

Florida is the No. 1 seed for the fourth time in the program’s history. The Gators advanced to the national site after winning the NCAA University Park Regional last Saturday.

 

The top three teams in each of the April 18 semifinals will advance to the NCAA Super Six on Saturday, April 19 at 7 p.m. (ET), where the national team champion is determined. ESPN3 will show the NCAA Super Six live and the meet will air tape-delayed on ESPNU April 30 at 8 p.m. ET.

 

Florida won its first NCAA team title at the 2013 NCAA Super Six team final in UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion.

The NCAA conducted a blind draw to set the start order for each of the semifinal sessions. This is the seventh time in its 32 NCAA Championships’ appearances Florida opens competition on vault, with the last coming in 2012.
