Friday April 4, 2014Solid Singles Play Lifts No. 15 Gators Past No. 16 Mississippi State

The 15th-ranked Florida mens tennis team notched another come-from-behind victory and defeated SEC-foe No. 16 Mississippi State, 4-1, on Friday evening at A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

 

The Gators trailed the Bulldogs after dropping the doubles point in a tiebreaker on court two. Stellar singles came into play immediately with freshmen Maxx Lipman and Elliott Orkin wins at Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively, to give UF a 2-1 lead.

 

UFs No. 108 senior Florent Diep improved to 7-1 in SEC play with a three-set defeat of MSUs No. 114 Malte Stropp on court two. Mike Alford sealed the Gator victory with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6. Alford has now surpassed 80 career wins donning the Orange and Blue with an 81-38 all-time record.

 

Shelton Says: Im very proud of our guys to get such a very tough road win after losing the doubles point. We continue to work hard every single day and we are seeing progress in both doubles and singles. We are looking forward to getting back home and preparing for Ole Miss on Sunday.
