Gators' Brittany Harrell started things off at Texas Relays for UF Wednesday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators, who debut the outdoor season at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, on the men’s and women’s sides in the USTFCCCA Division I Outdoor Preseason Computer Rankings, will split three ways for the second weekend of outdoor competition. Florida’s sprint and hurdle crew will head to Austin for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, while the Gators’ distance corps will head to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays. A select contingent of Florida track and field athletes will stay close in the Sunshine State for competition at the UNF Invite in Jacksonville to round out Gator action March 26-29. Florida junior Brittany Harrell has a jump on competition this weekend, as the 2014 indoor pentathlon All-American got things started off in the heptathlon Wednesday morning in Austin at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Through the first four events, Harrell is in sixth place (3,276) and will finish off heptathlon competition Thursday.

UF debuted the 2014 outdoor season March 21 when the Gators sent a distance and hurdle group to the FSU Relays. Freshmen hurdlers Skylar Ross-Ransom (14.09,-1.3) and Yanick Hart (14.15, -1.3) took second and third in the 100 and 110m hurdles, respectively, while UF placed all four of its women’s hurdler competitors in the top 10. Florida had four top-10 men’s 1500m finishers, paced by Eddie Garcia’s 3:57.78 fourth-place finish and Florida PR. On the women’s side in the 1500m, it was Macy Huskey (4:37.78) that led the charge for the Gators with an outdoor best in the event, while all six Gators were top-25 finishers in the race.

 

Florida wrapped up the 2014 indoor season with third-place finishes on both sides at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 14-15 in Albuquerque. The Gators boasted 11 USTFCCCA Indoor All-Americans with 12 honors on the men’s side, while the men’s 4x400-meter relay picked up All-America honorable mention accolades. On the women’s side, a total of 15 Gators were tabbed USTFCCCA All-Americans with 20 honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
