Wednesday March 26, 2014Shannon Gilroy Named ALC Offensive Player of the Week
Shannon Gilroy has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. This is the junior’s second ALC Offensive Player of the Week award of 2014.
Gilroy recorded 10 goals, nine draw controls, five caused turnovers and three ground balls to lead the No. 4 Gators past Dartmouth, 14-7, and No. 20 Ohio State, 10-9, this week. Gilroy’s most important goal of the week came with 2:41 left in the game against the Buckeyes, as it put the Gators up for the third and final time of the contest. Gilroy also eclipsed her own single-season goal record and has now found the back of the net 53 times this season. Additionally, she is now the Florida single-season free-position goal leader with 22 FPGs.
Next up, No. 4/5 Florida travels to DeLand, Fla., to face in-state foe Stetson on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Gators will return home on Saturday, March 30, to host ALC opponent No. 11/12 Penn State at 12 p.m.
