Tuesday March 25, 2014No. 4/5 Florida Travels to Face In-State Opponent Stetson
The No. 4/5 Gators will play their second road game in four days, this time traveling less to two hours to face the Stetson Hatters in DeLand, Fla., on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Stetson, which is only in its second year, has started the season win an 0-11 record. This will be the second meeting between the teams and Florida owns a 1-0 advantage in the series, after winning last year’s contest, 22-1.
Gators Remain No. 4/5 in Polls
The University of Florida lacrosse team holds steady at No. 4 and 5 in the IWLCA and Brine Media polls, respectively, as announced by the organizations on Monday. The latest rankings follow the Gators’ 14-7 win over Dartmouth and 10-9 come-from-behind victory over No. 20 Ohio State.
Among the teams remaining on Florida’s schedule, there are four teams present in both the IWLCA Poll and the Brine Media Poll: No. 7/8 Northwestern, No. 9/7 Johns Hopkins, No. 11/12 Penn State.
Gators Ranked High in NCAA statistics
As the season progresses, Shannon Gilroy and Florida continue to rank well in several NCAA statistical categories. In games through March 23, Gilroy leads the nation in goals (53), points (65) and goals per game (4.42), while being ranked fifth in points per game (5.42) and holding the single-game record for goals with eight, which the junior notched in the 18-7 win over High Point. Sophomore goalkeeper Mary-Sean Wilcox ranks No. 14 in save percentage (.500) and 17th in goals-against average (7.82).
As a team, Florida ranks first in draw controls (16.75 per game), second in points (248), fourth in scoring offense (16 goals per game), 12th in scoring margin (7.5) and 19th in scoring defense (8.5). Additionally, the Gators lead the American Lacrosse Conference in points, draw controls and scoring offense, while ranking second in ground balls per game (18.5), scoring margin and scoring defense.
