The Gators will venture over to the southeast coast of the state to participate in the 2014 Valspar Invitational at the Floridian on Monday and Tuesday.

The property of the Floridian was renovated in 2011 and in just seven months was transformed into one of the country’s best golf clubs, portraying Florida’s native preserves and wetlands with views of the St. Lucie River. The completely reconstructed golf course was designed by world renowned course architect Tom Fazio.

The Gators will be looking to capitalize on playing in-state after a tough outing last week at the Chris Schenkel Invitational.

Course Information: The Floridian Golf Club is a par-72, 7,114 yard course.

Tournament Information: The tournament will run from Monday, Mar. 24 to Tuesday, Mar. 25 and is co-hosted by the University of Arkansas and the University of Houston.

Format: 54-hole event where teams will play 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.

Tee Times:

Monday – 9 a.m. shotgun start

Tuesday – 8:30 a.m. split tee start

The Lineup:

·         Junior Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) will compete in his fourth tournament of the spring for the Gators. Banks matched a career-low round of 68 at the USF Invitational and then came away with a top-20 finish, the highest finishing Gator, at the Chris Schenkel Invitational last week.

·         Junior J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) has played every round for Florida this season. Tomlinson shot a personal-best 64 at the USF Invitational to finish in a shared spot for seventh and is leading the team with a stroke average of 72.88.

·         Freshman Ryan Orr (Belleair, Fla) is one of just two Gators that have competed in every tournament this season for Florida. Orr shot two rounds under-par in Dade City earlier this month to tally a career-low score of 217.

·         Sophomore Richard Donegan (Okeechobee, Fla.) will play in his fifth consecutive tournament for UF. Donegan’s best finish came at the Sea Best Invitational in February where he shot a 228 to claim a shared spot for 24th. The transfer shot a 221 at the USF Invitational but finished outside the top-50.

·         Redshirt freshman Conor Richardson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) takes on his third tournament of the season for the Orange and Blue, after seeing action in the fall at the Olympia Fields Invitational and competing at home in the Gator Invitational in February.

Buddy’s Bite: “A big time tournament, big time course, and a big time field. It’s another opportunity for us to step up and show some improvement.”
