Saturday March 22, 2014Texas A&M Evens Series With 5-4 Victory Over Florida Baseball

College Station, Texas

Junior Richie Martin went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs on Saturday.

A four-run second inning lifted Texas A&M (16-8/2-3 SEC) to a 5-4 victory over Florida (15-8/3-2 SEC) on Saturday afternoon at Blue Bell Park, squaring the teamsí weekend series. The Gators pulled to within a run in the sixth inning on a two-run, two-out single by sophomore Richie Martin (Brandon, Fla.) (3-for-5, two runs), but were stymied by scoreless outings from sophomore Andrew Vinson (2.1 IP, 1 H) and senior Jason Jester, who worked a perfect ninth for his third save.

Florida had a pair of runners in scoring position with one out and loaded the bases with two down in the first inning but was held scoreless by sophomore right-hander Grayson Long (3-0).

Texas A&M erupted for four runs on six hits in the second against sophomore righty Eric Hanhold (Palm Harbor, Fla.) (3-2). After an RBI grounder with the bases full by sophomore Logan Taylor brought home junior Logan Nottebrok (2-for-4) with the gameís opening run, senior Jace Statum roped a two-run single and freshman Nick Banks punched an RBI single up the middle for a 4-0 score.

A sacrifice fly by sophomore Harrison Bader (Bronxville, N.Y.) put Florida on the board in the third. Martin had led off with a single into right center and junior Casey Turgeon (Palm Harbor, Fla.) (2-for-4) followed with a single through the right side on a hit-and-run. Bader collected his second RBI of the campaign with his first sac fly into right field. Although junior Taylor Gushue (Boca Raton, Fla.) (2-for-4) doubled down the right-field line for two RISP, Long kept the Aggiesí margin at 4-1 by setting down the next two batters.

Taylor began the Aggiesí fourth with a double into left center, moved to third on a grounder by Statum and came home on a wild pitch by Hanhold for a 5-1 count.

Martin delivered a two-run, two-out single in the sixth that narrowed the gap to 5-4. After Long recorded the first two outs of the frame, junior Josh Tobias (Greensboro, N.C.) (2-for-3) legged out an infield hit and freshman Buddy Reed (Finksburg, Md.) followed with a ground-rule double to raise his hitting streak to six games. Vinson replaced Long (5.2 IP, 9 H, 4 R) and Martin greeted the reliever with a base-hit up the middle.

One bright spot for the Gators was the performance by freshman Brett Morales (Tampa, Fla.) who tossed four scoreless and hitless innings in relief of Hanhold (4.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER).
