Monday March 17, 2014No 4/5 Florida Returns Home to Host Dartmouth
After suffering just their second loss of the season, the No. 4/5 Gators will try to get back to their winning ways as they host the Dartmouth Big Green on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Florida owns a 2-0 record against Dartmouth, including a 1-0 advantage in Gainesville.
The Gators enter the contest after dropping a 17-12 decision to No. 2 Syracuse on Saturday, while Dartmouth is also looking to recover from a defeat, a 7-13 loss to Albany on March 8. The Big Green has started the season with a 3-2 record, and has won their only road contest.
Gators Sit At No. 4/5 in Polls
The University of Florida lacrosse team ranks No. 4 and 5 in the IWLCA and Brine Media polls, respectively, as announced by the organizations on Monday. The latest rankings follow the Gators’ 21-5 win over Winthrop and 17-12 loss to then-No. 2 Syracuse this past week.
Among the teams remaining on Florida’s schedule, there are four teams present in both the IWLCA Poll and the Brine Media Poll: No. 7/8 Northwestern, No. 11/7 Johns Hopkins, No. 10/13 Penn State and No. 20 Ohio State.
Gators Ranked High in NCAA Statistics
As the season progresses, Shannon Gilroy and Florida continue to rank well in several NCAA statistical categories. In games through March 16, Gilroy leads the nation in goals (43), points (55) and goals per game (4.3), while being ranked fifth in points per game (5.5), while holding the single-game record for goals with eight, which the junior notched in the 18-7 win over High Point. Senior goalkeeper Cara Canington ranks No. 17 in save percentage (.495). As a team, Florida ranks second in points (175) and draw controls per game (17.1), third in scoring offense (16.8 goals per game) and eighth in scoring margin (8.2). Additionally, the Gators lead the American Lacrosse Conference in points, draw controls per game and scoring offense, while ranking second in scoring margin.
Home Is Where The Heart Is
The Gators have made Donald R. Dizney Stadium a tough place for opponents to play. In four seasons, they have compiled an overall record of 48-4 (.923) record at home and 25-game win streak inside the friendly confines of Dizney Stadium.
