Saturday March 15, 2014Florida Falls One Spot After Round Two of Chris Schenkel Invitational

Statesboro, GA

The Gators men’s golf team improved four strokes from yesterday’s team total to finish round two at the Chris Schenkel Invitational with a 293, but dropped one spot to 12th place.

Shooting the first under-par round for Florida this weekend, junior Eric Banks closed out the day with a 71 after penciling in four birdies, three of which came on the front nine.

Junior J.D. Tomlinson and freshman Victor Tarnstrom both carded a 73 to improve from yesterday’s round while freshman Ryan Orr and sophomore Richard Donegan slid back a few strokes, shooting a 76 and 77, respectively.

Competing as an individual for the Gators, redshirt junior Santiago Gavino improved his play to fire a 73 today to rebound from his 82 in round one.

Florida now sits at 14-over as they will look to gain some ground in round three tomorrow.

Buddy’s Bite: “We got off to a pretty good start today. We started on the back nine, which is clearly the hardest nine, and talked about getting through the first six holes in a good spot, which we did and then we just played poorly from there out. We will keep working hard; it’s all you can do.”
