ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Following a thrilling SEC Championships run two weeks ago when the Gator track and field womenís team added its eighth indoor conference title, the No. 1 Florida squads embark on Albuquerque, New Mexico, with their sights set on bringing home the Florida athletic programís 32nd and 33rd national championship titles March 14-15 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

 

The UF track and field program owns five of Floridaís last nine national championships since 2010 and both the menís and womenís teams enter the 2014 Indoor Championships ranked No. 1. Only twice has a single school swept both the menís and womenís indoor titles - 2008 (Arizona State) & 2004 (LSU).

 

The Gators have won a total of four NCAA Indoor National Championships Ė one for the women in 1992, while the Florida men became just the third team in history to win three straight indoor titles when they did so 2010-12.

NCAA Indoors Gator Bytes

         Florida returns 2013 NCAA indoor champions Eddie Lovett (60mH) and Marquis Dendy (LJ). On the womenís side, the Gatorsí last individual national titles came in 2010 when Mariam Kevkhishvili (SP) and Charlotte Browning (Mile) each won their events.

         UFís men own 25 NCAA indoor titles from 30 different athletes, while the women own 18 titles from 18 athletes all-time in program history.

         The Orange and Blue boast 113 menís indoor All-Americans (261 honors) and 109 womenís indoor All-Americans in Gator history (240 honors).

         Florida finished second at the 2013 Indoor Championships on the menís side, while the women placed 13th.

         Following a 2014 SEC Indoor Championship title run for the No. 1 Florida women, and a sixth-straight top-two finish for the No. 1 Gator menís team at the SEC Championships in College Station two weeks ago, the University of Florida qualified a combined 23 student-athletes for the 2014 Indoor Championships.

         The Gatorsí NCAA contingent is the second-most in school history and the Orange and Blue will be led by 2014 SEC and USTFCCCA South Region Womenís Coach of the Year Mike Holloway. The UF womenís squad Ė which picked up 12 All-SEC honors and led by SEC Co-Womenís Runner and USTFCCCA South Region Athlete of the Year Cory McGee and Freshman Runner of the Year Rebekah Greene, qualified 12 for NCAAs with a meet-best 14 event victories.

         On the menís side, Florida has 11 qualifiers, including SEC Menís Runner & USTFCCCA South Region Athlete of the Year Arman Hall. The Gators had 10 All-SEC selections and meet-tying 13 entries for the upcoming NCAA Championships.

         Throughout the span of the indoor season so far, six Gator indoor records have gone down:

ē       Womenís High Jump: Taylor Burke (1.87m/6-1.5)

ē       Womenís 200m: Kyra Jefferson (22.87)

ē       Menís 4x4: Najee Glass, Hugh Graham, Jr., Dedric Dukes, Arman Hall (3:03.50)

ē       Womenís 4x4: Robin Reynolds, Destinee Gause, Kyra Jefferson, Ebony Eutsey (3:30.16)

ē       Menís 5000m: Mark Parrish (13:43.15)
