GAME NOTES

 

Ranked No. 1 in the ESPN.com / USA Softball and NFCA/USA Today national polls, the University of Florida softball team will travel to No. 25 LSU this weekend for a three-game series at Tiger Park...Game 1 of the series is scheduled for 7 p.m. (all times EDT), with the middle game set for 8 p.m. and the finale slated to begin at 1 p.m.….GatorVision will have live video of Friday’s game for subscribers, and the final two games of the series will air live on CST…all three contests can be heard on WGGG (1230 AM), with former Gator All-American Megan Bush joining Mike Gillespie on the call.

 

Gator Bites—Quick Notables

Florida is 26-1  on the season (2-1 in SEC play)…The Gators’ 26-1 mark is tied with the 2011 squad for the best record in program history thru 27 games…Friday’s game marks the end of a 16-game stretch for the Gators within the state of Florida. The series opener against LSU is the Gators’ first game in another state since Feb. 16.Senior Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.) was announced on Feb. 20 as one of 30 softball finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award, which will be presented at the Women’s College World Series.

 

Looking Back: Mercer & Ole Miss

The Orange and Blue swept a doubleheader against Mercer on Tuesday, winning 8-0 (5 innings) and 1-0…Both wins came via walkoff walks…The Gators took two of three games from Ole Miss over the weekend to win their first SEC series… Sophomore Kelsey Stewart (Wichita, Kan.) is batting .529 (9x17) over the last five games, with four runs scored, two doubles, five RBI and three stolen bases…In Saturday’s win over Ole Miss, the sophomore set career highs with four hits and four runs scored…Stewart enters the weekend with a 10-game hitting streak and a 27-game reached-base streak; UF’s leadoff hitter has reached base in every game this season…Freshman Delanie Gourley (Lakeside, Calif.) allowed no runs over 10.0 innings in two appearances against the Rebels, and shut out the Bears, extending her streak of scoreless innings to 27.0 IP dating back to March 1 vs. Fordham…The freshman lefty pitched a shutout for the third straight start in Wednesday’s second game against Mercer.

 

Up Next

Following the weekend series at LSU, the Gators will host Central Connecticut State on Tuesday (March 18) at 6 p.m. Alabama visits Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium next weekend for a three-game series. Fox Sports Florida will televise the game on Friday (6 p.m.), while CSS will carry Saturday’s contest (1 p.m.) and SUN Sports will broadcast Sunday’s finale (1 p.m.).
