Saturday March 24, 2001Grand Slam Lifts Baseball to 8-4 Victory
Mark Kiger’s fourth inning grand slam and Jimmy Ramshaw’s 7.2 inning pitching performance led Florida to an 8-4 victory Saturday against Arkansas at McKethan Stadium. Florida improves to 15-13, 2-6 in the SEC and Arkansas drops to 14-14, 2-6 in SEC play.
Ramshaw set career highs for innings pitched (7.2) and strikeouts (eight) in earning his second win of the year against two losses. Ramshaw threw 132 pitches before being taken out with two outs in the 8th inning.
Florida scored five runs in the fourth as Kiger broke open a 3-3 tie with a grand slam that cleared the leftfield bleachers. Kiger finished 2 for 4 with 5 RBI. He also extended his hitting streak to 17 games. Kevin Estrada and Brian Rose went 4 for 8 with four runs scored combined.
Florida now has winning streaks of four games overall, five straight against Arkansas and two straight in SEC play.
Arkansas starting pitcher Charlie Isaacson tied a season long outing with 7 innings pitched. Isaacson dropped to 3-4 while throwing 130 pitches.
Florida and Arkansas will finish the three game series Sunday at noon. Due to SEC travel rules no new inning will take place after 3:30 p.m. The game can be seen on Sunshine Network. All games can be heard on the Gator Radio Network.
