Friday February 28, 2014Florida Looking to Add NCAA Qualifiers at Last Chance Meet

Gainesville, Fla.

Florida swimmers without NCAA automatic qualifying times will have one final shot to improve their NCAA provisional qualifying times or achieve an NCAA ‘A’ cut at the two-day Bulldog Last Chance Meet in Athens, Ga. Following the SEC Championships, the Gators have already qualified all five relays for the men’s and women’s teams, nine individual men and six individual women.

The Last Chance Meet will operate as a time trial with no team scoring. If swimmers are unable to hit the automatic qualifying times they can still advance to the NCAA meet in events that are not filled up with the automatic qualifiers.

Last Time Out: The top-ranked Florida men won the program’s second consecutive and 35th overall Southeastern Conference Championship behind nine SEC titles. On the women’s side, the Gators ended their conference championship in third place behind Georgia and Texas A&M. Florida women won three SEC championships for the second year in a row.

Sounds Bites: “We’re going to the meet with everyone we think has an opportunity of making the NCAA team. We’ve got a few that just missed making the NCAA meet and a few that didn’t make the SEC roster that will be competing at this meet. We’re going back to Athens, and hopefully swimming in a competition where we can improve our times and put ourselves in a better situation to get picked up for the NCAA meet. We think we have a couple people, especially on the men’s side, which we felt could have made the conference team. It was a tough decision to leave them off. They have a good chance of qualifying for the NCAA meet themselves.”- Head Coach Gregg Troy.
