Gainesville, Fla.

Gator Softball is ranked No. 1 in both national polls for the second straight week.

After going 5-0 during a rain-shortened week of home games, Gator Softball maintained its No. 1 ranking in both the USA Today/NFCA poll, announced Tuesday (Feb. 25) by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, and the ESPN.com / USA Softball poll, released by the Amateur Softball Association of America.

Florida garnered 20 of 32 first-place votes in the USA Today/NFCA poll to increase its lead over Tennessee to 12 points, and the Gators earned 15 of 20 No. 1 votes in the ESPN.com / USA Softball survey to hold an 11-point lead over the second-ranked Lady Vols.

The Orange and Blue defeated Jacksonville Wednesday (Feb. 19) in their home opener at Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium before earning four wins in the University of Florida Lipton Invitational, with a pair of victories over both Troy and Indiana. UF won its five games during the week by a combined margin of 32-3.

The Gators are back in action this weekend when they compete in the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando. Friday’s 3:30 p.m. EST game against No. 4/6 Oregon will be televised nationally on ESPN.
