Kytra Hunter is the SEC Specialist of the Week after posting a 10.0 on vault versus Arkansas

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After posting the nation’s first 10.0 mark of the season on vault, junior Kytra Hunter (Frederick, Md.) is the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The SEC Gymnast of the Week went to LSU’s Rheagan Courville and Alabama’s Aja Sims is the SEC Freshman of the Week.

The Gators’ first 10.0 vault mark in 10 years gave Hunter her third consecutive win on the event. Hunter, one of a very few in the nation performing a Yurchenko layout with one and a half twist vault, had been oh-so-close to the perfect mark as she earned a 9.975 at six previous meets.

It was her third 10.0 of the season as she turned in 10.0 floor marks on Jan. 24 and Jan. 31. Her three 10.0 marks leads the nation in 2014. It is her third SEC honor of the season, as she shared the first and third SEC Gymnast of the Week awards.

In the sixth national rankings of the season, Hunter is No. 1 in floor (9.95), No. T2 in vault (9.925) and No. 3 in all-around (39.520).

Hunter became the second Gator to win the NCAA vault title in 2012. Susan Hines, the 1997 and 1998 NCAA vault champion, set Florida’s vault record with a 10.0 in 1996 NCAA Regional competition and then earned the mark three times in 1998. Four-time All-American Savannah Evans also posted a 10.0 vault in 2004 dual meet action versus UCLA.

Next up, it’s the No. 2 Gators facing the No. 3 LSU Tigers (7-2, 3-1 SEC) for the eighth annual Gators Link to Pink on Friday, Feb. 21. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

Live stats for Friday’s meet are available on the GatorZone.com GameDay link or follow the scores via Twitter @GatorZoneGym.

The first 2,000 fans Friday receive a pink Gators Link to Pink t-shirt, compliments of Allied Insurance. Look for 2-for-1 ticket coupons at Gainesville area Chick-fil-a restaurants.
