The Series: Florida vs. Florida State

·         Florida holds a commanding 53-1 all-time record against Florida State, including a 14-0 mark in matches played in Gainesville.

·         The Seminoles’ lone win in the series was on Feb. 28, 2009, when FSU captured the 5-2 decision and halted its winless streak versus the Gators.

·         Florida defeated FSU (4-0) last year in Tallahassee after a 7-0 win on February 29, 2012 in Gainesville.

Florida vs. In-State Opponents

·         Florida owns an impressive 197-33 record against in-state rivals and has reeled off 19 straight victories against Sunshine State opponents, with the most recent a 7-0 win against UCF on Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Gainesville.

·         The Gators’ last loss to an instate foe was a 5-2 decision on Feb. 28, 2009 against Florida State in Tallahassee.

124 and Counting

·         Florida is 3-0 at home this season and has extended its overall program-record home winning streak to 124, which includes 21 wins in postseason play (SEC and NCAA Tournament).

·         The streak is the longest active home win streak of any NCAA Division I women’s team, in any sport

·         The streak is the second-longest active home win streak on any NCAA Division I team, trailing only the run by the Ohio State men’s tennis team

·         The Gators set a new standard with their 6-1 victory over Mississippi State on March 29, 2009, passing the previous record of 60.

·         The last time the Gators fell at home was on May 15, 2004, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Miami (Fla.), 4-3.

·         Not including SEC Tournament or NCAA Championships events, Florida has won 127 consecutive home matches.

Numbers of Note

·         Brianna Morgan enters the Florida State match having won her last 16 singles matches in dual match play

·         Freshman Kourtney Keegan gained her 20th singles victory of the year at the Gators’ most recent match, a win over No. 6 Southern California

Quoting UF head coach Roland Thornqvist:

·         On the team’s upcoming schedule:

·         “We’re in the brutal February stretch now with the National Team Indoors behind us. We host Florida State tomorrow (Tuesday) before we head to California to play Saint Mary’s and Stanford. After that we come home and face another top team in Texas A&M. We knew February was going to be loaded with top competition.”

·         Recapping the ITA National Team Indoor Championships:

·         “I thought we played really well against Virginia in our first match. I thought Virginia was one of the better teams in the draw and the fact that we won the first match was excellent. In the next match we did not do that great against Northwestern, credit to them, they took it to us. We didn’t really answer the bell that day. I think the team really did a nice job after the Northwestern loss, they got together and ironed out a few things and then we were rock-solid against Southern Cal and that’s a very talented roster. Even after losing the doubles point, I saw great toughness and resilience in our team. If you’re going to take anything from the Indoor trip, I think there’s great character on this team and they responded the right way after a loss.”

·         On Florida State:

·         “It’s always a good match when we play those guys. They have a couple ball strikers at one and two (positions). They run and roll more after that. We are going to change up a little bit of our doubles pairings tomorrow. I think everybody is eager to get outside and play at home again.”

·         “Overall, we’re fairly healthy. We had a really tough week of training and I thought everyone did a good job of hanging in the there. I knew our seniors were going to have to lead our freshmen and they hung in there and made it through.”

Meet the 2013-14 Gators:

·         Alexandra Cercone: 5-5, Sr., Seminole, Fla.

·         Olivia Janowicz: 5-6, Sr., Palm Bay, Fla.

·         Kourtney Keegan: 5-11, Fr., Roswell, Ga.

·         Brianna Morgan: 5-8, So., Beverly Hills, Calif.

·         Sofie Oyen: 5-3, Sr., Leopoldsburg, Belgium

·         Stefani Stojic: 5-7, Fr., St. Albans, Victoria, Australia

·         Belinda Woolcock: 5-7, Fr., Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

·         Head Coach: Roland Thornqvist (UNC ’96, 13th year at UF; 18th overall)
