Gainesville, Fla.

Junior midfielders Shannon Gilroy and Nora Barry were named to the 2014 American Lacrosse Conference’s Players to Watch list, as announced by the league office.

Gilroy is one of the most prolific aspects of Florida’s offense to return in 2014. After leading the Gators in draw controls (59) and points (52) in 2013, Gilroy has already emerged as the leader in five offensive categories in 2014 – points (20), goals (19), draw controls (19), free-position goals (7) and shots (31). Gilroy set or tied three program records in the win over High Point, tallying 10 draw controls and eight goals off 13 shots.

Barry finished 2013 sixth on the team in scoring with 35 points on 26 goals and nine assists after starting all 21 games. Barry also ranked second for the Gators in ground balls and caused turnovers with 33 and 15 respectively. So far in three games of the 2014 season, Barry has set a program single-game record of four free-position goals and currently ranks third in points (6) while leading Florida in caused turnovers (3).

In all, 12 players from around the ALC were named to the watch list, with Florida tying for third with two players on the list. The Gators were picked to finish third in the league, behind Northwestern and Penn State.

The Gators, who have started the 2014 season at 2-1, will continue a four-game home stand by hosting James Madison on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
