Sunday February 9, 2014Hedberg Finishes in Top-10 as Gators Sit Ninth after Day One of Northrop Grumman

Palos Verdes, Calif.

Matching her season-low 18 holes, junior Camilla Hedberg made an impressive five birdies in round one to finish even-par (71), her same score as round one of the 2013 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, to lead the Gators women’s golf team after day one at Palos Verdes Golf Club.

Junior Sarah Schober (competing as an individual) and freshman Maria Torres followed Hedberg with top-20 individual finishes on the day, shooting just one-over (72) and rolling off three birdies apiece.

Carding a solid 76 (+5), redshirt sophomore Katie Mitchell penciled in just one double bogey at Palos Verdes as freshman Karolina Vlckova and senior Elcin Ulu rounded out the Gators’ five, shooting rounds of 79 (+8) and 82 (+11), respectively.

As a team, UF shot 14-over (298) and finished ninth. Unranked Baylor sits atop the team leaderboard, two strokes ahead of top-ranked Southern Cal. The Gators enter round two of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge aiming to play hard and to stay competitive.

Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: “We got off to a slow start today and it was hard to recover. The front nine, our back nine, played more difficult, so we were not able to make up many shots after our start. Overall, we were not happy with the team score, but there were some positives: Camilla, Maria and Sarah had nice rounds and had a bunch of good birdie looks.”

“This team is very talented and I see them improving. We have two more days and we will fight hard.”
