Tuesday February 4, 2014Florida Claims Sixth Place at Sea Best Invitational

Ponte Vedra, Fla.

The Gators came away with a sixth place finish (918) in a field of 16 at the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass on Tuesday afternoon. Liberty and North Florida ended round three in a tie for first place, as Liberty was later crowned the tournament champion with a lower round three score.

Sophomore Richard Donegan checked in as the highest finisher for Florida, earning a shared spot for 24th place. In his debut for the Gators, Donegan shot rounds of 73-78-77 (228) to finish 12-over.

Improving from an unusual round one performance, junior J.D. Tomlinson climbed to T31 (+15) after finishing round one T48. Tomlinson notched rounds of 79-75-77 (231).

Buddy’s Bite: “Well we got off to a great start today. I think after nine holes we had moved up to about third place. All five guys were hanging in there and playing pretty well and then the bottom just kind of fell out. Young teams sometimes have to learn how to keep it going. Sometimes they have to learn to get a good start and sometimes they have to learn how to finish. We had a good round and just didn’t finish. It’s part of the process with a young team like this. Now we’re half way through the season and we have to start making progress. Hopefully the Gator (SunTrust Gator Invitational) will be a little better.”
