Birmingham, Ala.

Kelsey Stewart joined Hannah Rogers to represent the Gators on the Preseason All-SEC Team.

After earning postseason all-conference honors in 2013, two Gator Softball players were selected for the 2014 Preseason All-SEC Team, announced Monday (Feb. 3) by the Southeastern Conference.

Senior pitcher Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.) and sophomore second baseman Kelsey Stewart (Wichita, Kan.) represented Florida on the preseason all-conference team. Both players were named to postseason all-conference squads last year.

Rogers was a NFCA First Team All-American in 2013 (first team) and 2012 (second team), and has earned three straight All-Southeast Region First Team selections. A Top-25 Finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award each of the last two years, the senior led the SEC in wins (33), strikeouts (243), saves (five) and innings pitched (270.2) during the 2013 campaign. Rogers finished second in the league in ERA (1.71) and allowed opponents to hit just .199.

Stewart was an NFCA All-Southeast Region selection last year, in addition to earning All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman Team honors. The sophomore earned a spot on the conference’s All-Tournament team after she helped the Gators to win the conference regular-season and tournament titles. The second baseman set UF single-season records for triples (10), stolen bases (36) and stolen base attempts (39). In her first year, Stewart also led the Gators in batting average (.378) and hits (90). These efforts garnered Stewart two SEC Player of the Week awards and a National Player of the Week honor on Feb. 12.

The Gators are the coaches’ preseason pick to win the 2014 SEC title after winning the conference regular-season and tournament championships last year. Florida begins play Thursday (Feb. 6) at USF before a five-game stretch over three days at the Wilson-DeMarini Tournament. Florida’s 2014 schedule is available on GatorZone.com.
