Tuesday January 28, 2014Swimming's Elizabeth Beisel and Marcin Cieslak Named SEC Swimmers of the Week
The Southeastern Conference named seniors Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I) and Marcin Cieslak (Warsaw, Poland) SEC Swimmers of the Week for their performances in the Gators senior day sweep of Auburn.
The honor marked the 10th time in her career, second in as many weeks and third time this season that Beisel has been recognized by the SEC for a weekly performance. Beisel celebrated her last meet in the O’Connell Center with a trio of victories in the No. 8 Gators 173.5-124.5 victory over No. 12 Auburn. Beisel beat the NCAA ‘B’ cut in all three races. The North Kingstown, R.I., native touched first in the 200 fly (1:54.60), 200 back (1:55.21) and 200 IM (1:59.20).
Beisel ranks in the top-10 nationally in six events and in the top-five nationally in four events. With a diverse array of season best times that rank in the top-10, Beisel has the potential to swim in the top heats of at least five events at the NCAA Championships.
Cieslak picked up his fourth career SEC weekly honor after being the men’s high point of the meet in No. 2 Florida’s 180-117 win over No. 10 Auburn. Cieslak had his hand in four wins, touching first in the 100 fly (47.68) and 200 freestyle (1:36.92) and swimming on the first place 200 medley relay (1:28.00) and 400 freestyle relay (2:56.19). Both of Cieslak’s individual times were NCAA ‘B’ cuts.
Florida will travel to Knoxville to end the dual meet season against SEC rival Tennessee at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Gators will then begin the final preparations before the SEC Championships beginning Feb. 18.
