Monday January 27, 2014Ulu Leads as Gators Take Fourth at Florida Challenge

Gainesville, Fla.

In her senior-season debut, Elcin Ulu led the Florida women’s team at the in-state battle on the The Quarry at Black Diamond Ranch today. Ulu shot even-par (144) in 36 holes to place in the top-5 individually as the Gators finished 17-over (593), fourth overall, at the 2014 Florida Challenge.

Competing as an individual, the 2013 Florida Challenge co-champion, junior Camilla Hedberg, showed her experience on The Quarry and fired rounds of 73-74. Hedberg ended the day at just three-over (147) and placed in the top-10 individually. Redshirt sophomore Katie Mitchell battled hard on the course, shooting a notable five-over on the day.

The Gators head to California next month to compete in the always challenging Northrop Grumman Regional, where they placed fifth out of 16 teams last spring.

Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: “It was a tough day out there for us. We made too many mistakes that you can’t afford on a course that was scoreable. We have a few weeks to get ready for Palos Verdes and we will make the most of them.”

“Elcin [Ulu] had a solid day and I am proud of her. She hasn’t competed for us in a while and she played like a senior leader today.”
