The USA Men’s U19 World Championship Team was named USA Basketball’s 2013 Team of the Year as announced by the organization this afternoon.
Coached by Florida’s point-man Billy Donovan, the 2013 USA Men’s U19 World Championship squad set five U.S. competition records en route to capturing the gold medal last summer. The team set new heights for most points (863), rebounds (439), field goals made (355), field goals attempted (685) and rebounds averaged (48.8).
Donovan was recently honored as the 2013 USA Basketball Co-National Coach of the Year as his team cruised to a flawless 9-0 record. Current Gator sophomore Michael Frazier II competed while Florida redshirt junior Billy Donovan, athletic trainer Dave “Duke” Werner and assistant to the head coach Mark Daigneault were included in the support staff.
Beating their opponents by an average margin of 39.6 point per game, Donovan’s team collected their third title in the past eight FIBA U19 World Championships.
