Monday January 6, 2014Jon Michelini Named Gator Baseball Athletic Trainer
Jon Michelini has been named the Head Athletic Trainer for the University of Florida baseball team and began work with the Gators on Monday, the first day of the 2014 spring semester. He is responsible for the prevention, care and rehabilitation of injuries. Michelini took over for Pat Hassell, who is now working at Louisville.
Michelini joined Floridaís athletic training staff after working at LSU since the fall of 2010, where he worked with the Tigersí baseball program and had secondary responsibilities overseeing menís golf and cheerleading.
Michelini went to LSU after spending three years at Auburn as the certified trainer for baseball. Prior to Auburn, Michelini spent three years at Stetson as an assistant athletic trainer, working primarily with menís soccer and baseball.
Prior to joining Stetson, Michelini served as a certified graduate assistant at South Alabama, working with track & field, cross country and baseball. He earned his masterís degree in exercise science from South Alabama in 2004.
Michelini received his bachelorís of science in exercise and sport sciences from the University of Florida in 2001. While at Florida, he worked with the Gatorsí baseball team under head coach Andy Lopez.
Michelini also interned with HealthSouth, Buchholz High School, Hampton Oaks Sports Medicine Center and Gaither High School.
A native of Oradell, N.J., he is married to the former Heather Quicke of Perry, Fla. The couple has two children, a daughter, Lillian, and a son, Hamilton.
