Wednesday December 18, 2013Chloe Mann Highlights Florida Volleyball's Five 2013 AVCA All-America Honorees

Gator senior MB Chloe Mann highlighted UF's 2013 AVCA All-Americans with First Team All-America status.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Gator volleyball senior middle blocker Chloe Mann, the nation’s leading hitter through 2013 (.506) and the NCAA career record-holder for hitting efficiency (.476), can take one final bow with her second straight AVCA First Team All-America honor to cap off a stellar career donning the Orange and Blue.

Mann highlighted UF’s five All-America honorees, released by the AVCA Wednesday, as senior setter Taylor Brauneis, freshman right-side hitter Alex Holston, sophomore outside hitter Živa Recek and junior libero Taylor Unroe all notched AVCA All-America Honorable Mention accolades.

For the second straight year, Brauneis and Recek picked up All-America Honorable Mention honors, while Holston and Unroe garnered their first career AVCA All-America awards. Holston and Unroe give UF an all-time tally of 31 All-Americans with 76 honors in the storied history of Florida volleyball. Mann is just the fifth Gator to earn multiple First Team All-America accolades during her career as a Gator.

Florida’s five honorees marks the most in program history following the AVCA’s regional re-alignment this year, while Holston is UF’s second consecutive freshman All-America Honorable Mention recipient following Recek’s national honors in 2012.

All five Florida honorees were named to the AVCA All-Southeast Region Team last week, while the quintet additionally made noise in the Southeastern Conference this season as four of the five – Mann, Holston, Recek and Unroe garnered All-SEC accolades. Holston was additionally named to the SEC All-Freshman squad and Unroe was tabbed the 2013 SEC Libero of the Year, UF’s second-ever defensive player of the year honor.

Each of the three AVCA All-America Teams is comprised of 14 athletes. The Division I AVCA National Player of the Year will be announced on Dec. 20 at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet presented by Northwestern Mutual.

The selections were made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee:  East Region: Mike Johnson, Xavier; East Coast Region: Tonya Johnson, Georgia Tech; Midwest Region, Chris Lamb, Wichita State; North Region: Molly Alvey, Cincinnati; Northeast Region: Sherry Dunbar, Indiana; Pacific North Region: Jennifer Greeny, Washington State; Pacific South Region: Jeff Nelson, New Mexico; South Region: Matt Peck, Middle Tennessee; Southeast Region: Craig Skinner, Kentucky; Southwest Region: Santiago Restrepo, Oklahoma.  The AVCA Awards Chair is Wisconsin Head Volleyball Coach Kelly Sheffield, but because of his responsibilities as a participant in the NCAA Semifinals, Craig Skinner served as acting chair.
