Six Gators were named to the 2013 AVCA All-Southeast Region teams Tuesday.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A program-best six Gators garnered 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Southeast Region honors, announced by the organization Tuesday, as the Orange and Blue placed a league-best five Florida volleyball players – senior Taylor Brauneis (S), freshman Alex Holston (RS), senior Chloe Mann (MB), sophomore Živa Recek (OH) and junior Taylor Unroe (L) – on the All-Southeast Region team, while sophomore middle blocker Simone Antwi was among the six AVCA All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention honorees.

 

All six Gators will now be in contention for AVCA All-America honors, slated to be released Wednesday, Dec. 18. Florida previously had a program-best five athletes recognized on the AVCA All-Region team in 2001 and has had four athletes honored on four different occasions (2002, 2003, 2010, 2012). Florida has 29 All-Americans in program history and 71 All-America honors.

Brauneis, Mann and Recek each picked up their second consecutive All-Region honors, as the trio additionally garnered 2012 All-America honors, Mann a First Team All-America pick last season, Brauneis and Recek Honorable Mention All-America. Holston is UF’s second straight freshman to pick up All-Region honors after Recek garnered 2012 Region and National Freshman of the Year honors last season. For Antwi and Unroe – the 2013 SEC Libero of the Year – the All-Region tribute marks the first for each.

Taylor Brauneis

Florida’s starting setter…Ranks 16th in the NCAA in assists per set (11.45)…Had five double-doubles in the regular season (three in SEC play) for the Gators…Brauneis ranks third in the SEC in assists per set (11.45)…Ranks eighth in the SEC in aces per set (0.29)…Eight times during the season notched a .500 assist percentage or above…Had a season-best 62 assists versus Western Michigan and had 50 or more assists in four matches this season…Had a career-high five service aces against LIU Brooklyn and registered seven matches with multiple service aces…Had six service aces against teams ranked in the top 25 when the Gators played them during the regular season and averaged 11.25 assists/set in those matches against top-25 opponents (Stanford, Penn State, FSU, Kentucky and Mizzou).

 

Alex Holston

A 2013 All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman selection her first year as a Gator…Ranks sixth overall in hitting efficiency in the SEC, second among freshman (.381), and 32nd overall in the NCAA with her clip …Had 10 double-digit kill performances this season and hit .500 or above in seven matches, including a season-high .727 at Alabama…Had the seventh-best attack performance this season in SEC play with her .684 attack percentage at Tennessee (min. 12 kills)...Her 2.87 kills per set in SEC play ranked sixth among all freshman in the league…Also had the fifth-most kills in a five-setter this season in league play with 21 at TAMU, second-best for a freshman…Hit .359 with 65 kills against Gator opponents ranked in the top 25 at the time of competition during the regular season (2.60 k/s) and had 13 blocks (0.52 blk/s) against those opponents…Twice named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

 

Chloe Mann

A 2013 All-SEC selection for the second consecutive year…2013 Senior CLASS Award Top-10 Finalist…Eclipsed the NCAA career record for hitting efficiency (.476) this season…Ranks first in the NCAA and SEC with her .506 hitting clip…Ranked seventh in the SEC in kills and points…Had the third-best attack percentage of the season in the SEC (.737) versus Alabama…Hit .500 or above in 20 matches, .600 or above in 10 matches, .700 or higher in four matches and .909 in one against Iona…Had a .449 clip and team-high 94 kills against top-25 ranked opponents at the time the Gators played them (Stanford, Penn State, FSU, Kentucky and Mizzou) during the regular-season…Had 22 double-digit kill games this season with a career-high 22 vs. TAMU (.606 clip), for which she was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week…Had five performances with five or more blocks, including a career-high eight vs. Georgetown and Florida State in the NCAA Tournament

 

Živa Recek

A 2013 All-SEC selection…Has 10 double-doubles in 2013 (seventh in the SEC)…Ranks ninth in the SEC in kills (3.28/s), fourth among all underclassmen, and 11th in points/set (3.75) in the SEC…Had season highs of 21 kills (Western Michigan) and 15 digs (at LSU/vs. FSU)…Had 15 service aces (0.25/s) in conference play and 24 (0.24/s) on the season as a whole…Tallied double-digit kills in 21 matches in 2013 and hit above .400 in six matches…Has the third-most receptions (408, .946 pctg.) and second-most digs (264, 2.59/s) on the UF squad…Had the second-most kills for the Gators against opponents ranked in the top 25 at the time the Gators played them (3.44/s) during the regular season…Had two or more service aces in six matches for UF.

 

Taylor Unroe

The 2013 SEC Libero of the Year…Also a 2013 All-SEC selection…Ranks 31st in the NCAA and first in the SEC in aces/set (.38)…Boasts 41 service aces this season and ended three of UF’s last seven regular-season matches with a service ace, including two five-setters against Texas A&M and Kentucky…Had a career-high six service aces at A&M, the second-most in the SEC this season, and had five against Kentucky in the regular-season finale…Has had two or more service aces in nine matches for UF…Also ranks  ninth in the SEC with 3.67 digs/set…Has had 15 or more digs in 12 different matches as UF’s primary passer, including a career high 21 twice…Boasts a .974 reception percentage, has a team-high 415 digs (3.84/s)…Served up nine aces against opponents ranked in the top 25 when the Gators played them during the regular season…A two-time 2013 SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

 

Simone Antwi

A key force in the middle for the Gators…Ranks 39th in the NCAA with her .377 attack percentage and checks in seventh in the SEC with her clip…Averages .89 blocks per set, 14th in the SEC and first for the Gators…Registered a career-high .706 hitting efficiency in UF’s win over No. 2 Stanford, the eighth-highest attack percentage (min. 12 kills) for an individual in the SEC this season…Had 10 double-digit kill matches, including a career-high 14 in the regular-season finale at Kentucky and in UF’s final match of 2013 vs. Florida State…Had five or more blocks on seven occasions, including three outings with seven blocks…Stepped her game up in SEC play, registering a .407 hitting efficiency, fourth in  conference play…Had 14 service aces in SEC play (0.23/s), tied for 19th in the league, and registered 3.19 points/set through SEC play...Registered a career-high three service aces against LSU and had four matches with two or more aces in the second half of the season.
