Florida's Savannah Jordan (left) & Christen Westphal head to U.S. camps in Sunrise, Fla., next week

A pair of Gator All-Americans will be in Sunrise, Fla., for United States age group national team camps later this month. Freshman Savannah Jordan (Fayetteville, Ga./ Whitewater H.S.) returns to United States Under-20 Women’s National Team training camp next week for the final preparations prior to the 2014 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) U-20 Championship in January. Sophomore Christen Westphal (Brecksville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit H.S.) has been called into the U.S. U-23 National Camp. The camps run concurrently from Dec. 14-21.

U.S. under-20 women’s national team coach Michelle French and U.S under-23 coach Steve Swanson each called 24 players into their camps. The teams will scrimmage against each other during the week. Following the camp, French will name a 20-player roster for the U-20 CONCACAF qualifying tournament that will run Jan. 9-19 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town, Cayman Islands.

Last week, Jordan became just the second freshman in Florida’s 19-year history to earn National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America honors. Jordan was the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year, marking the first time a freshman has received the honor. She shared the SEC lead and tied for third nationally in 2013 NCAA Division I play with 22 goals. That total also stands second all-time for Gator freshmen and is Florida’s highest season total since Abby Wambach turned in 31 as a senior in 2001. Jordan opened her collegiate career with two goals versus Florida Gulf Coast and three versus Oregon State –that five-goal weekend earned her Disney/NSCAA Player of the Week honors. She also was the SEC Offensive Player and College Sports Madness National player of the week on Oct. 28 after three goals in the previous weekend (1 at Tennessee, 2 versus Texas A&M). The SEC Freshman of the Year scored multiple goals seven times.

Westphal, also a 2013 NSCAA All-America second team selection, started at center back in all but the season opener of her freshman year and again led the Gators in average minutes played with 89.04 mpm in 2013. Westphal earned her second consecutive All-SEC honors as a sophomore, moving up to the first team in 2013. She was part of Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week on Sept. 11 after shutout wins versus Oklahoma (3-0) and Oklahoma State (2-0). She also was named to Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer 360 National Teams of the Week after two shutout wins – at Tennessee (3-0) and versus Texas A&M (2-0) – and providing an assist on Jordan’s second goal versus Texas A&M. The final SEC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season went to Westphal after scoring on a 40-yard free kick to open Florida’s scoring at Georgia.

This is the third USWNT training camp for Jordan since October, as she joined the U-18 National Team in Lakeland Ranch, Fla., from Oct. 13-17 and the U-20 team in Carson, Calif., Nov. 24-Dec. 1. Jordan also was a part of the Atlanta Silverbacks of the W-League this past summer and was the only incoming freshman to be named to the 2013 W-League All-League Team.
