Monday December 9, 2013Hargreaves, Fowler and Purifoy Named to 2013 AP All-SEC Teams

Gainesville, Fla.

The 2013 Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference football team was released on Monday. Three Florida Gators were included on the two teams, as true freshman Vernon Hargreaves III was named to the First Team Defense and sophomore Dante Fowler, Jr., and junior Loucheiz Purifoy were named to the Second Team Defense.

Hargreaves is the first true freshman at Florida to earn first-team All-SEC honors since punter Shayne Edge in 1991, and the first true freshman offensive or defense player to do so since Emmitt Smith in 1987. Hargreaves was the only freshman on the first team offense or defense in 2013. He totaled 38 tackles on the season, with three interceptions and 11 passes broken up. His 11 pass break ups equal the most by a true freshman in school history, matching the total Janoris Jenkins had in 2008.

Fowler was one of just five Gators to start every game during the 2013 season. He finished fifth on the team with 50 tackles, including 10.5 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks. He also forced three fumbles and had one fumble recovery.

Purifoy was a constant playmaker for the Florida defense. He totaled just 24 tackles, but his impact was felt in many other ways. He had two interceptions, one which was returned for a touchdown, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, a blocked punt and two sacks on the season.
