December 5 begins 2013 NCAA Volleyball Tournament play around the country, and all 64 teams are vying for a spot in the Final Four in Seattle when all is said and done. The Stephen C. O’Connell Center will play host to the NCAA First & Second Rounds December 5 & 6 as the No. 5 seed University of Florida, Jacksonville University, Georgia Southern University and Florida State University each embark on their respective postseason runs. The road to Seattle for the Gators, Dolphins, Eagles and Seminoles runs first through Gainesville, then on to Champaign, Ill., where the winner of the Gainesville Sub-Regional will be among the Sweet 16 Dec. 13 & 14.

For the Orange and Blue, Thursday will be the 21st time in the last 23 years the Gators will kick off NCAA Tournament play at home in Gainesville and UF is a staggering 45-6 when hosting NCAA action at home. Be sure to check regarding parking information for Friday’s NCAA Second Round match.

While the Gators have clashed with 15 teams in the 2013 NCAA Tournament field this season – and played the third-toughest schedule this season – amassing a 17-3 record against the top-level competition, Florida has faced just one of the squads visiting Gainesville for First and Second Rounds: Sunshine State rival FSU. The Gators have never matched up with first-round opponent Jacksonville in the NCAA Tournament. The Dolphins are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2004.
