The Series

·         The two-game series between the Gators and Trojans is tied

·         Florida won last year’s meeting in Gainesville, 87-62, on Dec. 4, 2012.

·         Troy’s win in the series was a 82-66 decision on Dec. 8, 1979, as part of the Mississippi College Classic in Clinton, Miss.

Quick Scout

·         Troy is under the direction of second-year coach Chanda Rigby, who has been coaching several other levels of women’s basketball since 1990.

·         Senior guard Joanna Harden scored a Troy and Sun Belt Conference-record 52 points (yes, 52 points!) in the Trojan’s 118-103 win against Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 26. Harden averages 26.3 points per game.

·         Harden is one of three Trojans who have tallied at least 10 three-pointers through the team’s first six games

Last TimeOut

·         Sophomore January Miller scored 15 of her team and career-high-tying 19 points in the second half and Florida weathered Oregon State’s three-point barrage to capture the 73-70 victory in the third-place game of the Junkanoo Jam on Saturday at St. Georges High School on the Grand Bahama Island.

·         The Gators trailed for the first 35:32 of the game, and by as many as 10 points with 11:08 to go in the first half, but never gave up and showed their resiliency in the second-half comeback.

Who’s Hot?

·         Jaterra Bonds averaged 19.0 points and 3.5 assists, while hitting 16-of-17 free throws during UF’s last two games and earned a spot on the Junkanoo Jam All-Tournament team.

·         Bonds scored a career-high-tying 25 points and helped Florida erase a late 14-point deficit, but Illinois State remained composed and handed the Gators a 68-64 loss in the Junkanoo Jam first round.

Bonds, Jaterra Bonds

·         Senior Jaterra Bonds is doing it all with 17.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals, while hitting 52-of-63 (82.5%) free throws.

·         Freshman Ronni Williams is averaging 11.1 points on 48.7 percent shooting, along with a team-leading 7.9 rebounds per game. She logged the second double-double of her young career with 14 points and 12 rebounds against Florida State on Nov. 21.

What’s Next?

·         Florida next returns to the court after a 13-day break and plays host to St. Francis (Pa.) on Tue., Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. ET.

Quotes from the Court:

·         “Troy poses a lot of significant challenges, on the offensive end in particular. (Joanna) Hardin had 52 points two games ago, which is amazing for anybody at any point in their career – whether you’re in junior high, high school or college. It’s just amazing to be able to score that much. They have some unique individuals like that who can really score in a variety of ways and that’s where their confidence is rooted. We’ve go to do a good job on the defensive end of taking that confidence away.” – UF head coach Amanda Butler on Troy

·         “They are tremendous in transition. I really admire the way that they play so fearlessly. They come down and shot the ball every single time, as if it’s going to be the game-winning shot. They hit a lot of them. They score a lot of points, have a lot of different people who can put you in different places that’s challenging and they are on their home court.” – Butler, more on Troy

·         “Transition defense is going to be really important for us, just an overall awareness, personnel awareness in particular. They are a team that doesn’t rely a whole lot on their offensive schemes or strategies or sets. They have great one-on-one players and draw a great deal of confidence from what they can do, especially in transition.” – Butler on one of the keys for the Gators
