Florida plays host to St. John’s on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the O’Connell Center, where the Gators have compiled a 50-6 record against non-conference opponents.

The Gators, however, are coming off a tough 76-68 setback to instate rival Florida State in their last home game, also a decision that snapped the team’s home win streak against non-conference opponents at 17.

The first 200 fans receive a special business padfolio, while Season Ticket Holders receive 2 vouchers for FREE admission to the Dec. 17 game vs. St. Francis.

The Series

·         St. John’s won the only prior meeting in the series against Florida, earning the 61-47 decision on Nov. 25, 2009 in the first round of the FIU Thanksgiving Classic. UF’s Lily Svete was a true freshman on that Gator squad, but tore her ACL during practice in Miami in preparation for the tournament and did not play in that game.

Quick Scout

·         St. John’s in one of a couple dozen teams in the country still undefeated.

·         St. John’s began its season with a 77-72 overtime road win and has played its last three games at home in Carnesecca Arena prior to Tuesday’s game at the O’Connell Center.

·         Sophomore guard Aliyyah Handford is averaging an eye-popping 25.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, as well as leads SJU with 11 steals.

Contrast in Scoring

·         The Red Storm is 16-46 from the 3-point arc this year. Florida has nearly as many MADE three-pointers (39) as SJU as attempted. Both teams connect on 34.8 percent from long range.

Last TimeOut

·         January Miller scored a career-high 19 points and freshman Ronni Williams recorded her second double-double (14 pts, 12 reb) but it was Florida State that came away with the 76-68 decision on Thursday in the O’Dome.

·         The Red Storm are coming off a 76-66 home victory against Quinnipiac. Aliyyah Handford pumped in 27 points with 11 rebounds, while Amber Thompson added 12 points and 10 rebounds for SJU, which shot 48.3 percent from the floor during the win.

Bonds, Jaterra Bonds

·         Senior Jaterra Bonds is doing it all with 17.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 2.0 steals, while hitting 33-of-38 free throws. She has connected on her last 12 free throw attempts entering Tuesday’s game.

Rookie Review

·         Freshman Ronni Williams is averaging 10.8 points on 51.1 percent shooting, along with a team-leading 8.6 rebounds per game. She logged the second double-double of her young career with 14 points and 12 rebounds in UF’s most recent game.

Non-SEC Home Games

·         The Gators boast an impressive 50-6 home record against non-conference teams under head coach Amanda Butler.

Quotes from the Court

·         “We have to be ready for a very high-powered offense, some individual scorers who are really, really impressive. They have a lot of quickness, a lot of athleticism and they are a team that hasn’t been beat yet, so we have some great challenges ahead of us.” – UF head coach Amanda Butler on St. John’s

·         “We’re continuing to work really hard on our defense. That’s the area that we feel is our biggest weakness. We’re trying to figure out what works best with which five. We’re trying to get individuals better at performing their jobs consistently at a high level. That’s our biggest challenge. We play great in spurts, but for 40 minutes of basketball we’re not playing the type of defense that we feel is important to win big games, really any games for that matter. That’s been our emphasis.” – UF head coach Amanda Butler on what the team has been working on in practice since Thursday’s loss to Florida State

·         “We’ve been very inconsistent in that so it has to be our focus and have our attention. This season, St. John’s had typically had four guards out there a lot. I think, like everyone else, they’ve had their fair share of injuries. We could see a different look if they get one or two of those players healthy before tomorrow, which we won’t know until game time. It just has to be a focus for us. It has to be something we’re paying attention to.” – UF head coach Amanda Butler on rebounding
