Florida starter Alex Hart shutout Fordham over five innings as the Gators went on to defeat the Rams 15-1 Tuesday night at McKethan Stadium. Florida improves to 10-10 on the year while Fordham drops to 1-3.
Hart (1-1) picked up his first victory since May 2, 1999 against Vanderbilt. The sophomore starter went five innings, struck out four batters and allowed two hits. K.O. Wiegandt and Ben Hedgecock pitched the final four innings allowing one run.
The Florida bats exploded for 22 hits along with the 15 runs. Eight Gator batters finished multi-hit games. Brian Rose led the Gators with three hits going 3 for 3 with three RBI and two runs. Kevin Estrada went 3 for 5 with two runs and one RBI.
Ryan Shealy and Matt Goss each extended hitting streaks to 17 and 11 games respectively. Shealy went 2 for 4 with two RBI and one run, while Goss went 2 for 5 with one RBI and one run.
Florida jumped out to the early lead scoring 11 runs in the first three innings. The Gators scored eight runs in the third inning alone. Goss led off an eight run 3rd with a solo homer to left. The Gators then followed with five straight hits in the inning.
Fordham starter Anthony Santopolo (0-2) took the loss falling to 0-2. The starter gave up 11 hits and eight runs in two innings of work.
