Wednesday November 20, 2013No. 7 Gators Sweep Lady Vols for 23rd Consecutive 25-Win Season

Senior Chloe Mann now sits atop the NCAA record book standings for career hitting efficiency.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Chloe Mann, sophomore Živa Recek and freshman Alex Holston all notched double-digit kills as No. 7 Gator volleyball’s 25th victory of the season came via a sweep in Knoxville against the Tennessee Lady Vols Wednesday in front of a national television audience on ESPNU. Florida made it 23 consecutive 25-win seasons, all under head coach Mary Wise.

Mann, the nation’s leading hitter in 2013, officially became eligible for the NCAA career hitting efficiency record Wednesday evening, as the Gator middle blocker needed just seven attacks to reach the career minimum 1,500. Mann has put together a .471 hitting percentage throughout her time donning the Orange and Blue and will look to finish out her career as a Gator atop the NCAA record book in the category.

·         Freshman Alex Holston (13), sophomore Živa Recek (12) and senior Chloe Mann (10) all swung for double-digit kills Wednesday. For Holston it was her first match since Nov. 13 with double-digit kills and her first double-digit kill performance with zero errors this season

·         Recek notched her sixth match in the last seven with double-digit kills, while Mann reached double-digit kills four the fourth time in the last eight matches

·         Holston’s .684 hitting percentage was her third-highest of the season

·         Florida has now had five or more service aces in eight of its last 10 matches

·         The sweep over Tennessee marked UF’s 11th of the conference slate

·         Junior Holly Pole paced the Gators with three service aces Wednesday, her second time in SEC play with three and her fifth time in conference play with two or more in a match

·         Sophomore Nikki O’Rourke also chipped in a season-tying two service aces against the Lady Vols, her third time this season with two

·         The last time the Gators had three players with double-digit kills was against Georgia Oct. 3 in Gainesville (Mann, Antwi, Holston)

·         Junior libero Taylor Unroe had a team-high 10 digs on the night for the Gators, her most since Nov. 3 against Texas A&M

MARY’S MINUTE

“We had a really good performance out of a number of different players, but you have to look at the play of Alex, Chloe and Živa in terms of their offensive production. I thought Nikki O’Rourke gave us a spark off the bench, some good things happened. Now we have a quick turnaround getting ready for LSU Friday night.”
