No. 2 regional seed Florida meets Duke at the Koskinen Stadium Friday at 7:30 p.m.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 2 region seed Florida and Duke meet for the 12th time overall and the second time in post-season action when the teams face each other for NCAA Second Round play Friday evening at DU’s Koskinen Stadium. The winner will face the winner of Friday’s first match – Arkansas versus St. John’s – Sunday at 1 p.m. in the NCAA Round of 16.

Duke is one of eight programs playing host to 2013 NCAA Second and Third Round action this weekend. NCAA Quarterfinal action will be held Nov. 29, 30 or Dec. 1 on four campus sites with the Women’s College Cup set for Dec. 6-8 in Cary, N.C., at the WakeMed Soccer Park.


Against the NCAA Field:

Florida is 7-3 against teams in the 2013 tournament field. The Gators have registered wins against No. 4 regional seed Texas A&M (Oct. 27), Minnesota (Sept. 13), Oklahoma State (Sept. 8), Kentucky (Oct. 18), Jacksonville (Nov. 16) and Mississippi (Sep. 27 and Nov. 8). UF has losses versus No. 1 region seed Florida State (Aug. 30), No. 3 region seed South Carolina (Oct. 4) and Texas A&M (Nov. 10).


Last Weekend:

The Gators opened NCAA play with a 2-0 win over Jacksonville last Saturday at the James G. Pressly Stadium. Florida’s first goal also was the first of the season for junior Tessa Andujar. Freshman Savannah Jordan, from the top of the box, one-touched the ball wide to Andujar on the left flank. The ball Andujar sent from 20 yards scored upper slot at the far post in the 31st minute. A corner kick from Annie Speese was touched in at the near post by freshman Meggie Dougherty Howard to give the Gators the final margin in the 57th minute. It was the second goal for Dougherty Howard and she scored her first at Florida International also off a corner kick.


About the Blue Devils:

Duke is making its 11th consecutive and 20th overall appearance in the NCAA Championship field. The Blue Devils advanced with 5-3 penalty kick advantage at Colorado College after the two teams played to a 1-1 2OT tie. Of the six penalty kick matches Duke has played in NCAA action, the Blue Devils have advanced five times – including versus Florida in 2010 second round play. Duke tied for seventh in 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference action with its 5-5-3 league record. Junior Kelly Cobb leads DU in goals (7) and points (17). Junior Meghan Thomas has started the last eight matches in goal for Duke and owns a GAA of 0.92.


Series Record:

Florida leads the all-time series 6-3-2. Two of the last three meetings (both in 2010) ended in ties, including a 0-0 2OT match in the 2010 NCAA Second Round. Duke advanced to the 2010 NCAA Round of 16 with a 4-2 penalty kick advantage.


2013 Conference Finish:

Florida – Gators shared 2013 SEC regular-season title with Texas A&M as each turned in 9-2 records. Texas A&M defeated Florida 2-1 in the SEC Tournament final.

Duke – Duke tied for seventh in 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference action with its 5-5-3 league record. The Blue Devils lost 2-0 at Florida State in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinal round.



Florida is ranked No. 6 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.
