NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Florida cross country senior Mark Parrish was named the 2013 USTFCCCA South Region Men’s Athlete of the Year Tuesday following his winning performance at the NCAA Cross Country South Region Championship Nov. 15 in Tuscaloosa. Parrish shattered his personal best 10K mark (29.44.24) en route to being UF’s second-ever NCAA South Region Cross Country Champion – the first since 2004 – as the No. 30 Gator men’s team secured a ticket to nationals for the second time in the past three years.

Parrish, Florida’s first-ever South Region Men’s Athlete of the Year, owns the third-fastest 10K in the Southeastern Conference and the second-fastest 8K mark in the league this season.

In addition to his PR in the 10K race at the South Region Championship, Parrish shattered UF’s 8K school record with his performance at the 2013 Wisconsin adidas Invitational on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course Oct. 19 in Madison. Parrish used a 23:34 for 11th overall in the field of 288 men’s athletes.

Parrish and the Florida men’s squad, along with Gator women’s at-large runners Cory McGee and Agata Strausa, will take to the course at the Wabash Family Sports Center in Terre Haute Nov. 23 for the 2013 NCAA Championships.
