Kennesaw, Ga.

Kayla Lewis, a Georgia native, is averaging 10.3 points and 7.7 rebounds this year.

Florida makes the 328-mile bus ride North from Gainesville, Fla., to Kennesaw, Ga., where the Gators play Kennesaw State on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET, in the first meeting between the two programs.

This is the Gator’s second consecutive road game as they aim to collect their first victory away from home this season, having faltered at Virginia Tech, 71-59, on Thursday.

Last TimeOut:

·         The Gators outscored Virginia Tech 44-32 in the second half and held the 38-34 rebounding edge against the taller Hokie frontcourt, but a woeful first half that included a 16.7-percent shooting effort and a 39-15 halftime deficit proved too much to overcome in a 71-59 loss.

·         Florida, which trailed by as many as 28 points with 17:55 remaining in the game, dug deep and rallied to get within four points with 6:51 remaining, but the Hokies hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the decision.

·         Kennesaw State held a 32-31 halftime lead on the road at Gardner-Webb on Thursday, but the home team rallied for the 84-58 win. Both of the Owls losses this season have been on the road.

Pair of Peach State Gators

·         Kayla Lewis is a native of Decatur, located just 25 miles from Kennesaw, Ga., while Christin Mercer hails from Douglasville, just 21 miles away.

·         Lewis, the 2010 Miss Georgia Basketball, helped Southwest DeKalb High School capture the Class 4A Georgia state championship her final three seasons. Lewis also was the 2010 Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year.

·         Mercer graduated from Douglas County High School in May of 2012, after leading the Lady Tigers to a 26-3 overall record that included an 18-0 mark in 5-AAAAA region play which resulted in the region title. Mercer was named 2011 and 2012 Atlanta Journal Constitution All-State First Team Class AAAA.

Seniors Stepping Up:

·         Seniors Jaterra Bonds and Lily Svete are UF’s top-two offensive leaders through the first three games.

·         Bonds is doing it all with 18.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.0 steals, while hitting 20-of-24 free throws.

·         Svete has carried the long-range load, knocking down 12-of-26 from beyond the arc en route to 13.0 points per game. She has canned four treys in each of the three games.

Bonds’ 20-20 Vision:

·         Jaterra Bonds has tallied back-to-back 20-point games for the first time in her career. The Gator senior, who has seven 20-point scoring games, scorched North Florida for a career-best 25 points and followed with a 21-point night at Virginia Tech.

Everyone Scores!

·         In all three games this season, all eight Gators who suited up for the game, scored in the game!

·         Joining Bonds and Svete in double-figure scoring is Kayla Lewis, who nets 10.3 points with 7.7 rebounds per game.

·         Freshman Ronni Williams is the Gator’s leading rebounder, with 11.0, in addition to netting 9.5 points.

·         All 8 Gators average at least 6.3 points per game this season

Owl Sighting

·         The KSU roster features eight freshmen, one sophomore, five juniors and one senior

·         Junior Ty-Nita Baker averages a team-best 21 points per game, converting 11-of-31 three-pointers and 12-of-14 free throws

·         Junior Kristina Wells averages a team-best 8.0 rebounds, with 11.3 points per game

Quotes from the Court:

·         “Kennesaw State is a team with a lot of newness that comes with a high degree of unpredictability. In their last ballgame, they lost be a good margin, but led at halftime, so the score is misleading and it’s really hard to get a good grasp of who they are right now.” UF head coach Amanda Butler on Kennesaw State

·         “They have a couple of really capable scorers and rebounders. They are a very dynamic team and are really good off the dribble, which is a challenge for the way fouls are being called. Nitra (Perry) does a great job and and will have her team ready to play.” – UF head coach Amanda Butler on individual Owls to watch

·         “The Gators versus the Owls. That’s the matchup I’m most looking forward to on Sunday. There isn’t an individual on our team or their team who is going to be any more or less important to our success. We really need to play good team defense. That’s what we’re most concerned with in the game. That’s what our focus has been during the last two days of practice. Our emphasis is on defense.” – UF head coach Amanda Butler on a key matchup for Sunday
